Beautifully perched at an altitude of 3647 meters above the sea level, Kasauli is a stunning hill resort in the state of Himachal Pradesh. Being nestled in the Shivalik hills, this hill station maintains an enduring temperature of just 15 degrees Celsius with relics of the colonial era with dawns often bathed in early-morning mist. Kasauli has a mix of oak and pine trees along with a number of landscaped orchards and gardens. Moreover, it offers an ideal escape from the torrid plains of northern India. This place’s history coupled with pleasant temperature mountain and charming scenic grandeur offers a feel of a colonial charm that in fact was here during the British Raj.
Known to be the highest point in Kasauli, the spot is named on Rishi Man-Ki, who used to worship the statue of Lord Hanuman here. In fact, Monkey Point has a small temple atop the hill, which is dedicated to Lord Hanuman. However, the temple is located inside the Air Force Station and you might need to take special permission to visit this spot because it is a restricted area. The cameras and phones are not allowed inside the region. From atop, you can capture picturesque views of the plains of Chandigarh city and winding silver lines of River Sutlej flowing through them. According to legends, when Lord Hanuman was returning to ‘Sanjeevani Booti’ for wounded Lakshman and His foot touched this peak, making the shape of the hill top like foot of the Monkey-God.
Christ and the Baptist Church
Built during the British era, this beautiful Christ and the Baptist Church were constructed in the year 1884, making it one of the most charming colonial structures present in Kasauli. This captivating monument has ancient gothic construction, spires etc., which is a typical Anglican church. The church is devoted to St. Francis and St. Barnabas and known for its stained glass décor and verdant green surroundings, making it a picturesque tourist attraction.
Lower and Upper Mall
As a tourist, you should never miss a visit to the two main roads of Kasauli referred to as Lower and Upper mall. These two roads are lined with charming pine, oak, chestnut and juniper trees. The Lower Mall is renowned for its eating joints, while the Upper Mall does not allow any sort of vehicle in its proximity to protect its cleanliness and charm. You can park your vehicle and take a long walk to explore the calmness of the upper mall.
Gilbert trail (Nature Walk)
If you are one of those travelers who like to enjoy nature in its pure form, then Gilbert trail will surely be an amusing experience for you. Situated on Kachha road and extended around 700 meters after the lover’s lane, this place is a paradise for sightseeing of nature and bird watchers. If you take an early morning trail in the early morning, then you might get a chance to spot rare species of birds and wild animals running around. The path is narrow and pretty slippery, so be careful while walking.
